I recently spent three very happy days at Aldeburgh Cookery School (click here to see where Aldeburgh is on the map). The school is run by Thane Prince and Sara Fox, with the very able assistance of Mel. Aldeburgh is beautiful being a very picturesque coastal town.
Thane was until very recently the cooking correspondent of The Daily Telegraph newspaper. Sara is renowned in Suffolk as a fantastic chef who, along with her partner, run a brilliant restaurant in Aldeburgh called The Lighthouse.
Five other 'enthusiasts' and I learnt a variety of recipes and tips. We
learnt to cook and dress crabs and lobsters, make bread, cakes, kedgeree,
cook fresh sea fish, prepare awesome beef, make (and flambee) puddings,
and 'shuck' oysters. Sara's claim to fame is that she is the UK's
champion female oyster shucker. I was pretty impressed!
I whole-heartedly
recommend to any of you that you go on a course with the Cookery School.
Its a lot of fun and very informative. Ring the school up on +44
(0)1728 454039 or email Sara Fox
for further information.
